Damian Lamar Lockhart is a two-time Suzi Bass Award nominee, a 2024 Reiser Artist Lab Fellow, and a multi-hyphenate artist based in Atlanta, GA. Originally from Buena Vista, GA - a small town with one stop light and no theatre program - Lockhart became Marion County’s first recipient of the Ledger-Enquirer’s Page One Award for Drama in 2011. He spent his formative years at the Springer Opera House training and performing alongside professional artists. A recipient of the Springer Legacy Award in 2011, Lockhart holds a Bachelor’s degree in Theatre & Performance Studies with a focus on African American Theatre from Kennesaw State University, and he began his professional career as a directing and performance intern at Actor’s Express Theatre Company under Freddie Ashley (2015-2016).

Viewing the world through a Black, Southern, and queer lens, Damian creates theatre that challenges audiences intellectually while encouraging emotional transformation. He believes theatre is a sacred space, where storytelling is communal and audiences are encouraged to connect, reflect, and confront their own truths.

As an actor, Damian has worked regionally, on screen, and internationally in Casablanca, Morocco. A few of his credits include Donald Glover’s Emmy Award–winning FX series Atlanta; AMC’s critically acclaimed comedy Lodge 49; the BET+ original film Stalked Within starring Brely Evans; the Apple TV+ feature film, The Family Plan with Mark Wahlberg; and the Queer as Folk reboot on Peacock.

As a director, Damian’s portfolio spans museum theatre, sketch comedy, new play development, full productions, and digital media. His collaborators include: Working Title Playwrights, Horizon Theatre, Kennesaw State University, Theatrical Outfit, Atlanta History Center, Alliance Theatre, Life on Campus, Hush Harbor, Out Front Theatre Company, 7 Stages, Synchronicity Theatre, and Urbanite Theatre in Sarasota, FL

Lockhart’s art connects communities, celebrates humanity, and reimagines tomorrow. When he’s not at the theatre, you can find him roaming a local art gallery, estate sale, or nature trail with his partner Micah and their brindle fur baby, M’Baku Jabari.

Every project he touches seeks to honor lineage, build community, and reimagine tomorrow.
